Topics getting the most attention in Cleveland Heights public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Dedicated safe-streets budget line item
Council advanced a contract with Chagrin Valley Engineering for the federal SS4A demonstration project — crosswalk daylighting, better lighting, curb extensions, and signal retiming to protect pedestrians and cyclists.
NEORSD Community Cost-Share Funding for Street Sweeper
Council boosted street construction spending by a few million dollars this year, aiming toward the roughly $6 million a year an engineer said is needed to catch up on road repairs. The real long-term number still needs work.
Economic development assistance applicant
The city committed a $750,000 grant and a $750,000 loan to the Park Synagogue project back in October, but the developer's closing slipped to this year. Council had to pass an emergency appropriation now so the funds are available at closing. The loan is 30 years at 2%, interest-only for the first ten years.
Pool Financing
Cleveland Heights city council is scrambling to figure out how to pay for a funding gap at Cumberland Pool, which could throw a wrench into your summer plans. If they can't balance the budget, residents might lose access to a key neighborhood swim spot when the weather heats up.
